Arundel itself is a historic town, full of character and charm. Famous for its imposing castle, Gothic style cathedral and antique shops, a country town with modern conveniences! There are a multitude of quality restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs and shops all within a few minutes walk from Portreeves.

Up on the hill overlooking the town is Arundel Castle, the home of the Dukes of Norfolk. The castle holds many special events throughout the year, during The Arundel Festival (last week in August), it is the atmospheric setting for the Open-Air Shakespeare, spectacular firework concerts, & concert venue for internationally acclaimed artists. The Cathedral dominates the hill from the South; beautifully illuminated at night, it too holds it’s own popular events such as Corpus Christi - Carpet of Flowers (June)

Arundel was once a busy Port; nowadays you can take a boat for a more leisurely cruise up the river to Amberley, or to the coast at Littlehampton, just 4 miles away!

Arundel has a thriving artistic community. There are plenty of galleries showing work of international and local artists, and Arundel’s gallery trail (part of the Festival) is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon or two! There is also the Priory Playhouse Theatre for evening entertainment.

Other local attractions include the Wildlife and Wetlands centre, and the beautiful Swanbourne Lake. There is also the Arundel Park Cricket Ground, which hosts international matches in June/July. Another popular event is the annual Wade collectors fare, all this within walking distance from the accommodation at Portreeves. Exploring the local country, beach & cities

Arundel may be a thriving town but it is situated in the middle of the Sussex countryside, rich in wildlife – ideally located to explore the Arun Valley and the rolling South Downs, perfect for walking, horse riding and cycling.

Amazingly it is also only 4 miles from the coast. The award-winning beach at Littlehampton has everything for a fun, safe day at the seaside. For a quieter beach experience try Littlehampton’s West Beach, or the beach at Climping. If you are interested in water sports, Littlehampton is good for windsurfing, surfing, canoeing, sailing, diving and fishing. For a fantastic day out with a hint of education look no further than Amberley Working Museum, Bignor Roman Villa, or Weald & Downland Open-Air Museum at Singleton. There are also the beautiful country houses at Petworth & Parham. We also have some fantastic modern art collections at Goodwood Sculpture Park & Pallant House.

Arundel is an ideal base for the popular events in or around the City of Chichester. Racing at Fontwell and Goodwood, Goodwood Festival of Speed (July), the Revival Meeting (Sept), and events at the prestigious Chichester Festival Theatre, are all within 9 miles of Arundel.

Further West is the city of Portsmouth where you can see Henry VIII’s Mary Rose, Nelson’s HMS Victory and the Historic Dockyard. You can even hop on a hovercraft to the Isle of Wight or even a ferry to France.

To the East is the stylish, Bohemian Brighton with its cafes, bars and restaurants, Pavilion & Pier, great for shopping and entertainment.
